Staff Bio: Mrs. Crystal


Crystal Harrelson, a.k.a "Mrs. Crystal", started taking dance at the age of 2. She took class at Bobbi Collins Dance Studio in Rocky Mount, NC under Bobbi Collins & Crystal Collins. Later, she studied at A Step Above in Rocky Mount and Louisburg School of Dance in Louisburg, NC under Terri Dement. Throughout her youth, Crystal competed in several regional competitions where she placed high in the overalls. While in her youth, Crystal auditioned for the All-Star Cheerleading Team where she was able to combine her love of dance with her tumbling abilities as well. Toward the end of her high school career, she became a teacher at A Step Above, where she began to share her love of dance. 

Crystal continued to pursue her passion for dance by attending East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. While at ECU, Crystal earned her BFA in Dance Education and received her teaching certificate, which allows her teach in the North Carolina Public School systems. 

In September of 2007, Crystal was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of opening her own studio, Crystal's Elite Dance Studio. In 2011, Crystal joined forces with her colleague, Miranda Holder, and welcomed her as Co-Owner of the studio. Under Crystal's leadership, Crystal's Elite Dance Studio has won several overall awards at Regional and National competitions. Several f her routines have been chosen to compete in callback challenges. Crystal's work has won a prestigious choreography award and the studio as a whole was recognized as "Top Studio" at a Regional competition. 

On a personal level, Crystal married her high school sweetheart, Curtis Harrelson. In November of 2007, the couple began their family with the birth of their son, Colton. Four years later, their family continued to grow with the addition of their precious daughter, Caydance. Crystal's joy in life is being with her family, and sharing her love of dance with her extended family, her dancers.
